D.A.R.E Lion District #6, in conjunction with the Rothesay Regional Police Force, is presenting a drug abuse, anti-gang and violence education program at elementary schools. The primary emphasis of the program is to assist students in recognizing and resisting the pressures that influence them to experiment with drugs and\or gangs. The program is entitled D.A.R.E.(Drug Abuse Resistance Education).

A semester course will be given one day each week to fifth grade students. The curriculum, developed by the Los Angeles Unified School District's Instructional Specialists, will be presented by a uniformed police officer and will cover such topics as how to say no to peers, building self-esteem, alternatives to drug use. The officer teaching this class will also be available to present drug education classes to parent groups and will work in cooperation with parents to ensure that children are well informed regarding the dangers of drug abuse.
